Forgive me for asking Dave but what is it about this particular modelthat needs a manual to use it? Most of the cheaper end models I haveseen seem pretty intuitive.TrevYes, it seems to be working OK but I'd like to get clarification ofthe function of a red push-button mounted on the carrying handle. Thisseems to set the detection threshold and affects the adjustment of the'Discriminator' control.Quite simply, I'd rather like to RTFM.;-)- DaveDavid C.Chapman - -David Morgan19.08.05 10:22. This seems to set the detection threshold and affects the adjustment of the 'Discriminator' control.Dave-If you search by the catalog number instead of just the '4001', you mayfind more information. As others suggested, the 4003 manual might help if you can't find the 4001.I have the Micronta 4003, catalog number 63-3003. The red button is for'auto tune', used to return the meter to zero when it drifts. It is firstset to zero with the coil in mid-air, using the Tune contol.Fredmeat6.@gmail.com20.07.16 17:00. My son had one about 25-30 years ago and it is still used very occasionally for hunting pipes in concrete floors etc.! I could have a look for the manual, we normally keep them all, but finding one so old is the problem!

The red button on the handle is the key control for zeroing the sound as I recall. C+Charlie and Pam-You may be more likely to find a manual for the Micronta 4003. It isprobably close enough to the 4001.The 4003 is a 63-3003 part number. I assumed the 4001 might be a63-3001, but the manual I found did not have the red button used forauto-zeroing.Reference 'Radio Shack Metal Detectors Made by Bounty Hunter'.FredFred McKenzie11.08.17 19:52.
I made a coin garden today so I could put my Micronta and the new Fisher Gold Bug SE thru some paces. I buried a penny, dime, nickle, quarter, rusty nail, pull tab, and a 4inch piece of galvanized wire (not in the form of a loop) in separate holes 4 inches deep. Then I did the exact same thing at 6 inches.I know there's not much sense in reporting on the Micronta, since they don't make them any more that I know of. But you will find them for sale on Craigs List, Ebay, and at garage sales.I fully expected the Micronta to perform well at the 4 inch depth. I got nothing! I really thought I had forgot to turn it on so I double checked.
I turned the volume up, set the detector to all metals, maximum sensitivity, double checked the tune control and ground balance.nothing. So I checked it on a metal light pole and yup, it was on. All I can say is that this MD is definatley not for serious detecting, just coin shooting and digging other stuff at shallow, recent depts. I HAVE found things at a 2 inch depth under real conditions so I know it will go there. It might find older relics that have been in the ground a long time or very large objects at deeper depths, but I'm not hunting for old pickup tail gates. The gold bug is not here yet.Linkback:You are not allowed to view links.or.
