MFA: Painting ConcentrationThe School of Art offers an in-residence Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree with a concentrationin Painting. This three-year degree program, comprised of 60 hours minimum, enablesrigorous development in both studio research and art history.Our program propels graduate student research to new heights. We value critical thinkingand experimentation among our MFA students, and provide academic mentorship and resourcesto augment their practice. Courses in art history and critical theory further stimulatethis development. Each graduate student's degree plan will culminate in a rich thesislecture, paper, and exhibition, presented to the faculty, student body, and communityat large.Accepted MFA students will be considered for teaching opportunities, such as TeachingAssistant or Graduate Part-Time Instructor.
Texas Tech Landmark Arts Galleries, aswell as Lubbock's vibrant arts district and community, are rife with opportunitiesfor group shows and collaborative partnerships.Studio spaces are provided for graduate students, and are approximately 200 squarefeet of space.
