Hello.I have question about licensing. Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation has limit of 15 users.
Is this limitation for Windows accounts? More specifically, lets say I have 3 Windows accounts on my machine and IIS web server which hosts popular web site (andruns under one Windows account). If my web site is used by thousand concurrent 'application users', can I use this version of Windows Server for such purpose? Or does 15 user limitation means that IIS will also allow only 15 concurrent connections?I hope my question was clear enough:)Kind regards. Hello,if you mean that external users wants Access throught web(Internet) without authentification on th eserver than you can use also the Foundation Edition limited to 15 User accounts.for confirmation, on the Windows Server 2012 foundation MSLT we have th efollowing Details:Using the Server Software:You may install and use one copy of the server software on the licensed server.
You may create up to 15 accounts ('User Accounts') that can access and use the server software. User Accounts are assignedto the licensed server and only permit access to that server. Each User Account must be assigned to one user. Each User Account permits one user, using any device, to access and use the server software on the licensed server.Internet Access:You do not need a User Accountfor any user or device that accesses the server software only through the Internet without being authenticated or otherwise individually identified by the server software or through any other means.thanksdiramoh. You can use Windows Server 2012 Foundation in either Active Directory® or workgroup environments to create up to 15 user accounts that can access and use the server software.
Each user account permits one user, using any device, to access and use yourserver software with no client access licenses (CALs) required. In the Windows Server 2012 Foundation operating system, you will receive a warning message if you exceed the fifteen-user limit.Ref.: Sharma Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi,I'm a security camera integrator and I'm not completely familiar with Windows Servers. Our customer wanted a couple recorders (where the video management software (VMS) and video is stored) to run Windows Server 2012. Our server hardware provider compliedand sent us servers running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. The issue we ran into is that the server is shutting down on it's own. Logs show it due to a license issue and there is an entry in BPA that states to change the number of connections to an allowablevalue. Our VMS provider said it is due to the limitations of Essentials only allowing 25 devices total. That includes cameras recording and PCs accessing the server.
We have about 35 cameras recording to each server. Which is why they recommend the standardversion. Our server provider says he hasn't heard about that limitation and doesn't think that's the reason for the server shutting down. So is there a limitation to devices on a Essentials server, and does it recognize each camera as a device?
And if wedo need to upgrade to the standard version would we essentially need a CAL for each camera and PC connected to the server?Thanks,-Jonathan. Hi,Based on my technology, Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 Essentials is primarily designed as a first server solution for small businesses that need support for up to 25 user accounts and up to 50 devices. If your device/user exceeds this limit, I would recommend you to consider of Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 Standard/Datacenter version. If so, corresponding CALs should be purchased for your users/devices for connecting/accessing servers. Licensing How To: When do I need a Client Access License (CAL):If you still want to use the features provided by Essentials, such as RWA, automatic client computer backup, and etc.
